Hanisi Garue’s collaborative ingenuity seamlessly blends contemporary composition with Pacific musicalities, creating a distinctive sound that uplifts Moana visual storytelling.

Hanisi Garue, the screen-composing duo of David Feauai-Afaese and Navakatoa Tekela-Pule, have made a quick impression on the screen composition landscape with their evocative take on post-modern Polynesia.

David is an award-winning Pacific artist and lead writer of LEAO. Informed through their deep studies of the Pacific, David infuses their work with experimental fa'asamoa textures and emphasis on Pacific muso-historical references.

Navakatoa is a prolific writer/collaborator of many Aotearoa artistic projects such as LEAO, Erny Belle, Romi Wrights, HINA, Morgan Flowers and more. From a vast arts background, Navakatoa brings an intuitive understanding of creative processes and a flair for engineering and sound design.

Together as Hanisi Garue, they have composed for a diverse range of projects both complementing each other’s strengths. They have scored season 2 of the award-winning docuseries ‘Still Here’, a love letter to the inner-city Auckland Pasifika community, directed by Litia Tuiburelevu and produced by Four and Five Films. Scored the short film ‘Tuia Ngā Here’ directed by Kura Turuwhenua and Heriata Rurehe produced by Māoriland Productions, and created the soundtrack to upcoming feature length film ‘Tinā’ directed by Miki Magasiva and produced by Dan Higgins, Mario Gaoa and Jamie Hilton.
